Overview of Business Start Up

Qualification aims and objectives

Over half a million businesses are started every year; however, 30% of these fail within the first two years. Having a better understanding of the initial processes and requirements of a business start-up can increase the chances of your business succeeding.

This qualification will:

  • Focus on the study of starting a business
  • Support learners in creating a business plan.

The objective of this qualification is to:

  • Gain an understanding of the steps of creating and developing a business start-up
  • Develop an awareness of business skills
  • Increase self-awareness and aid personal development.

Course units

To be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate, learners are required to successfully complete four mandatory units.

Initial steps for a business start-up

The aim of this unit is to help learners understand the initial steps of a business start-up. Learners will understand how to develop business startup ideas, understand business ownership and work out what resources are required to develop a business start-up

Marketing for a business start-up

The aim of this unit is to help learners understand the market their business start-up idea will be positioned in and how to use market research to support the business start-up. Learners will understand how to develop a successful marketing strategy.

The aim of this unit is to give learners an understanding of the legal and financial factors that will affect the business start-up.

Developing a business plan

The aim of this unit is to give learners an understanding of business planning and how to apply their theoretical knowledge to develop a final business plan.

Eligibility

Location

Been in the UK or EU for three years for purposes other than study.

Age

19+ at the start of the academic year.

Qualifications

  • Not on an apprenticeship.
  • Not completed any part of the course before.
  • 19-23-year-olds must have a level 2 or higher prior to attainment.
